According to official ACI Europe<\/a> data, Frankfurt airport<\/strong> (Germany) leads the way with 2,228,796 tonnes handled in 2021. It is followed by Paris-Charles de Gaulle airport <\/strong>in France with a total of 2 million tonnes of cargo loaded and unloaded. In third place is Amsterdam-Schiphol airport<\/strong> (Netherlands) with a total of 1,667,304 tonnes in 2021. Next on the list is Li\u00e8ge airport<\/strong> (Belgium), which follows closely behind Amsterdam airport, with almost 1.5 million tonnes transported in the last year. And in fifth place among Europe’s most important cargo airports is London-Heathrow (United Kingdom) <\/strong>with 1,397,103 tonnes in movement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A radiography of the main cargo hubs in the old continent where the first place in the ranking is occupied by Frankfurt<\/strong>, located in the heart of Europe and with a privileged location as a hub for major air routes<\/strong>. In Spain, the most important airports in terms of cargo movement are Madrid-Barajas<\/strong>, Barcelona-El Prat<\/strong>, Zaragoza<\/strong>, Vitoria <\/strong>and Palma de Mallorca<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Top five cargo airports worldwide<\/strong><\/h5>\n\n\n\n

China’s Hong Kong Airport<\/strong> became the world’s leading cargo airport in 2021 with a total freight traffic of approximately five million tonnes during the year. It was followed by Memphis airport (United States)<\/strong>, which handled around 4.5 million tonnes, and another Asian airport, this time Shanghai<\/strong>, completed the podium. The fourth and fifth most cargo airports are Incheon Airport (Seoul)<\/strong>, considered the most technologically advanced airport in Asia, and Alaska International Airport (United States)<\/strong>, with a total of 2.6 million tonnes of cargo movement and unloading.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
